St. Maarten's vacation- January 29. 2007

Arriving. They
told us that this airport runway 250 feet from the
Sunset Beach Bar is in Ripley's "Believe it or Not."

From our balcony in Maho
Bay. We stayed on the Dutch side of the island
which is considered the "wild" side. We mainly dined on the northern
French side.

Two blocks up the road was this Casino. We won and we lost.

First day at Rouge Bay. (French)

All of the beaches are
"clothing optional." But both men and women are
required
to keep their bottoms on in the bars and restaurants.

First dinner at Marigot Bay marina restaurant. Margaret took this from our table.

Our waitress, Olgavy, the Maitr'd, and us - one bottle of wine later.

After dinner, we hit the local rum - hard.

First snorkeling boat trip to Creole Rock.

Mullet Beach (Dutch locals)

Saw dozens of very large starfish at Mullet beach.

Simpson Bay (Dutch). Our
captain pointed out Oprah's mega-yacht on the way to
Creole Rock. He said it cost $117 million, has a crew of 26, and "if
nothing is broken (which never happens),
and the captain doesn't have to turn the engine on, it costs Oprah $10,000
a day to keep the boat in Simpson Bay."

Lunch on Front Street in Phillipsburg (Dutch)

Our rental car, a Daihatsu
"Charade." We learned there are no drunk driving laws on the Dutch
side.
No breathalyzers. But if you get caught driving a boat intoxicated, they throw
the book at you.

Grand Case beach (French)

With Ray ("X-Rey") one of the well-known St. Maarten musicians.

Little Bay Beach (Dutch)

Orient Bay (French)

At La Playa restaurant (French)

The shells we found snorkelling.
